Think Like A Manager
Journey forward to project management success
In project management, the phrase "Keep Moving Forward" emphasizes leading yourself and taking proactive steps to achieve your goals. This mindset is essential for both personal and professional growth. In the following YouTube video, I explore the concept of "thinking like a manager but acting like a leader." This approach combines the practical aspect of management—getting things done—with the inspiring role of leadership, which involves leading by example and serving others through the principles of servant leadership.
One key takeaway from the video is the idea that inaction is a form of action—just not productive. When we wait for decisions or hesitate, time keeps moving, and resources are still being utilized. Therefore, it's crucial to define our priorities using frameworks like MoSCoW, which categorizes requirements into must-have, should-have, could-have, and would-like-to-have.
Additionally, adopting a proactive approach, like Mark Twain's idea of "eating the frog," encourages us to tackle the most daunting tasks first, making the rest of the day more manageable. By applying the Japanese principle of Kaizen—taking small, continuous steps toward improvement—we can make significant progress in our projects and personal lives.
I invite you to explore these ideas further on my YouTube channel, where you can find valuable insights into project management and leadership. Join us in our journey of continuous learning, and keep moving forward!

TRIVIA TIME
In project management, what does the acronym MoSCoW stand for in prioritizing requirements? |
The correct answer to last week’s trivia question: Earned Value Management (EVM) is a project management technique that integrates project scope, schedule, and cost parameters to assess project performance and progress. By comparing the planned value, earned value, and actual cost, EVM provides insights into how much value has been delivered for the amount spent, allowing project managers to evaluate project performance and forecast future performance effectively.

Like many I know, I learned project management mostly by doing. We started by organizing cool stuff with friends and continued in our fields until it became a profession. Studying for the PMP gave me a robust framework for analyzing project mechanics.
"The goal is for you to pass the PMP. Stay in scope." Mr. Phillips' PMP prep course provides everything needed to pass. I read along in the PMBoK Guide and did write out flip-cards by hand. I rather liked flipping through them.
The PMP journey also gave me access to valuable resources—handbooks, a global community of colleagues, and proven principles. Having just passed the exam, it already feels worthwhile. Less than a goal achieved it feels like a beginning. Leveling up.
It took more time than I expected, and at one point, I doubted its worth. I reached out to the instructor, who provided quick encouragement and coaching, helping me manage my expectations. This support was crucial for passing the final hurdle. Above target.
Thanks, Mr. Phillips and the Instructing.com crew. Keep moving forward.
