From Positive Thinking to Positive Action: Unlocking Your Potential

Journey forward to project management success

If you want to change what you are, you must change what you do

I've said for a long time that I'm a fan of positive thinking. I truly believe in the power of our thoughts - what you dwell on is most often what you'll get. However, thinking about losing weight while eating a thick slice of chocolate cake doesn't quite work. You can think and daydream about your goals all that you like, but until you do something - until you take action - ain't nothing gonna happen.

While I am a proponent of positive thoughts, I'm more a proponent of positive actions. To be frank, get off your butt and do something.

When I deliver the Lifelong Project presentations or talk with people one-on-one, I can see people get excited about their goals, their possibilities, and their options. And then, we do an exercise where I challenge them to do one action towards their goals. That's right, just one action that can be done in ten minutes or less. Some embrace the opportunity to take action, while others tremble at the possibility of doing something towards their goal.

Fear and doubt hold many at the threshold of possibility. Fear and doubt rob the work of realizing their full potential. Fear and doubt, the evil twin brothers, must be pushed aside by believing in yourself, your power, and your potential. And the more you believe, the more actions you take, the easier it becomes to propel yourself onwards.

You don't need to commit entire days and hours to your goals. If you'll start with just ten uninterrupted minutes each day, you'll begin to chip away at your goals and bring them into your reality.

What are your goals? What actions can you take right now to propel yourself forward toward the reality of accomplishing them?

Keep moving forward,
